Accounting Supervisor

Industry: Automotive Tires; Distribution and Warehousing; Wholesale Import and Export

Location: Brampton, Ontario

Contract: Until January 2, 2020 with Possibility of Extension

Reporting to the Treasurer, The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for managing the accounting team and the following functions: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, financial reporting and analysis. This includes daily management and oversight of the group’s activities; closing the month end and year end books, coaching and mentoring the team; and building/maintaining partnerships with our internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all corporate accounting functions ensuring transactions are processed on a timely basis and are in compliance with corporate and accounting policy, accounting standards and statutory legislations
  • Oversee the execution of the monthly accounting cycle from start to finish
  • Review approvals, investigate late invoices and issues
  • Review and post all transactions to the General Ledger
  • Prepare monthly financial report package, summaries, and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports
  • Conduct general leger accounts reconciliation and variance analysis, reconcile and resolve discrepancies between general ledger and sub ledger, identify and resolve transactional accounting discrepancies • Prepare the year-end working paper package for external auditors
  • Perform monthly CAD & USD cash forecasting
  • Responsible for fixed and prepaid assets management
  • Prepare or co-ordinate the preparation monthly government remittances and statutory reporting and annual return
  • Provide leadership, direction and guidance to the team. Train and develop staff. Build and maintain a positive, results oriented team environment
  • Work collaboratively with all areas of the organization and build and maintain effective partnerships with each area. Provide advice on policies and guidelines
  • Assist with systems implementation and/or improvements
  • Analyze freight and duty costs. Determine freight and duty cost discrepancies
  • Review cheque payments and remedy invoicing discrepancies
  • Review government importing and exporting prices
  • Prepare financial information for clients
  • Analyze trial balance and financial statements

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Undergraduate degree in commerce/business, CPA an asset, but not required
  • 2-3 years’ experience in comparable role
  • In-depth knowledge of ASPE
  • Understanding of Canadian sales tax, including inter-provincial sales
  • Advanced skills and working experience with Sage 300 and Excel
  • Able to lead, coach, mentor and motivate productive work teams
  • Strong, effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Attention to detail; tight deadlines, ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Adept to change and constant improvement
  • Experienced with US/CA customs is an asset

Required Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or related field 2
  • 2-3 years of experience in a comparable role

Preferred Education and Experience

  • CPA an asset

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • 2 to 3 full time positions
