BROSNAN, SCHURTER WIN AT VALLNORD WORLD CUP
Canyon Factory Racing’s Troy Brosnan posted a winning run in 4:06.236. Brosnan, who had also qualified fastest, took the victory despite challenges from roots and rocks that spotted the course. Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Greg Minnaar took second place with a smooth run that was just .220 seconds longer. MS Mondraker Team’s Danny Hart rounded out the podium for Maxxis in 4:08.642.
Overcoming a course which featured both arduous climbs and sharp descents, a Maxxis-sponsored rider topped the podium in men’s cross country. Nino Schurter of Scott-SRAM Racing Team held a lead of nearly one minute for most of the race, winning in 1:23:28 to remain undefeated for the season. "I'm super happy," he told cyclingnews.com. "I love this course; it's super technical, and I really feel [at] home here. I had an awesome start and was at the front from the beginning. Here at altitude, it's really important to pace your race, and when I had the gap, I was able to do my own race. It was a perfect race for me. With three World Cup wins, it is already an amazing season, and I just hope it can get better and better."
In women’s cross country, Olympic medalist and Team Merida rider Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja took the third-place spot on the podium, finishing in 1:28:00. Like Schurter, Dahle Flesja bested a difficult course and the challenges of a high-altitude race, where oxygen debt was a real possibility.
Maxxis congratulates Troy Brosnan and Nino Schurter, and thanks them for proving once again that champions choose Maxxis.
